航海日誌2024.7.3 船團目前最快紀錄

長濱船團的夥伴們將我們這艘船Tāwāhi推向海裡,我立刻感受到烏石鼻沙灘在南風盛行時,風向的紊亂。做了幾個tacking,仍然不太吃風,決定先划槳出烏石鼻岬角,那裡應該有穩定的南風。

果然,沒幾分鐘的划行,接近岬角,就開始接觸到強勁的南風,比上星期阿宗長航時的風更強,張開帆,以beam reach到broad reach的接風帆型,船速可以達到7節。

以莉掌舵,她可以掌握得住這樣的風勢。我們在海上飆風。很快就抵達我跟阿翔討論的第一導航轉向點,在玉長公路口、寧埔社區外海。但疾駛在前方的Makani,並沒有轉向的意思,依然抓住風勢往東北方向狂飆。以莉決定跟著,我們一起往外海前進。

浪有點亂,船很顛簸,我居然跌進船艙裡,四腳朝天。

到了南竹湖外海,離岸很遠了,浪開始變高。我可以辨認出兩種湧浪,一種是持續不停,一直一直來的,比較細碎,高度較低。另一種與前一種的方向不同,更偏南,高度很高約接近2公尺,體積龐大,間歇性地來。以莉的運氣不錯,見識過這種浪況,以後出海心裡會更篤定。

以莉以前在船團練船的時候,由於當時只有一艘船,她經常是在旁邊等待,後來她決定買一套SUP來玩,免得等待的無聊。後來SUP都練熟了,卻還沒什麼機會練習船團的南島帆船。我感覺真是對她很抱歉。我對她承諾,我一定會帶她長航。

後來,以莉的帆船技術越來越好,在今年的活水湖盃帆船錦標賽,晉級決賽!而且我發覺她對長濱船團的南島帆船的舵,掌握得越來越好,我便開始安排她的長航。

船航行到永福部落外海,遠遠的,我看到定置漁場的浮球在左舷遠方。我們又一次繞過定置漁場。以莉說她想看看海上的定置漁場浮球,但這次是無緣近距離見到了。

接近長濱漁港時,風幾乎完全停了。我們靠海流微微漂動。我想划槳前進,以莉阻止我。她吹口哨,她想引來風,想抓微弱的風。失去風的確定動力,船晃動得很厲害。

最後,風實在太微弱,而且方向不定。我執槳,開始向不遠處的長濱漁港划去。失去風,帆船上的氣氛煩悶。以莉開始唱她創作的「綁繩歌」。好適合這艘帆船的歌!歌聲一起,航行的辛勞好像被蒸發了。要度過繁重枯燥的划槳,變得容易了。

最後上岸的時候,我們在2小時以內完成這段航程。以莉完成的這次長航,是船團目前最快的紀錄。

今天對我們的長濱船團船員以莉來說,是個特別的日子。她以船長和舵手的身分,駕駛Tāwāhi,完成了從烏石鼻到長濱漁港的長航,而冠宇擔任大副。祝賀她,願她未來有更多的航海之旅。

我擔任Makani的大副,船長阿翔掌舵。這次的活動從昨天開始,我們將Makani和姊妹船Tāwāhi運送到烏石鼻,並準備好帆船,為今天的冒險做準備。

我們感謝耀威、小杯、Maarten以及其他支持我們的人。

起航並離開風向難以預測的烏石鼻海灣後,阿翔巧妙地設定了一條航線,讓風始終保持在我們的右舷後方。我們在偏航與順風之間巧妙地調整帆,充分利用南風,航程初期進展非常順利。

中途時,我們的速度有所減慢,但在阿翔的精湛駕駛下,我們依然保持良好的進展。我原以為較輕且速度較快的Tāwāhi會超越我們,但我們一直保持領先位置,直到航程結束。儘管如此,Tāwāhi在整個航程中始終緊隨在後。

在航程結束時,由於風力大幅減弱,我們不得不使用划槳前進。我們在不到2小時內達到了目的地,創下了新紀錄。相比第一次接近6小時的航行,這次的航程時間短得難以置信。另一個可能幫助我們提高速度的因素是,我非常注意ama在水中的位置,盡量讓ama保持在水面上方,確保將拖曳力降至最低。大部分航程中,我都坐在船艙內,沒有坐在hiking seat上。

這次航程給我的感覺完全不同於以往任何一次,因為有兩艘船同行。偶爾瞥見Tāwāhi在附近航行,或聽到其他船員的聲音,這種感覺非常美好。我非常期待能很快增加船隊的規模。

Today marks a special day for our Wind Voyager sailor Ilid. She completed the long traditional voyage from Wushibi to Changbin as the skipper and helmsman aboard the vessel Tāwāhi, with Guanyu as the first mate. Congratulations to her, and may she have many more voyages ahead.

I served as the first mate on the vessel Makani, with skipper Ahxiang at the helm. This exercise began yesterday, when we transported Makani and her sister boat Tāwāhi to Wushibi and rigged the sailing canoes in preparation for today’s adventure.

We are grateful for the help from Eric, Xiao Bei, Maarten, and others who supported us.

After setting sail and leaving the cove of Wushibi—where the winds were highly unpredictable—we were masterfully guided along a course set by Ahxiang, which kept the wind at our starboard stern. Weaving our way in and out with the sails trimmed between broad reach and running, we took good advantage of the southerly wind and made very good progress in the beginning of the journey.

Mid journey, our speed reduced, but with Ahxiang’s skillful steering, we were still able to make good progress. It was around this time that I expected the lighter and faster Tāwāhi would overtake us, but we managed to maintain the lead until the end of the voyage. Nevertheless, Tāwāhi remained just a stone’s throw behind us the whole trip.

At the journey’s end, we had to provide paddle power as the wind reduced substantially. We reached our destination in a record time of under 2 hours. It seemed unbelievably short compared to our first attempt, which was close to 6 hours.

Another thing that might have helped our speed: I was very conscious of the position of the ama in the water, making sure to keep drag at a minimum by keeping as much of the ama as high above the water surface as possible. Most of the voyage, I sat in the canoe and stayed off the hiking seat.

This voyage had a completely different feeling than any other voyage I've been on and that is because of the two vessels. The occasional glance of the Tāwāhi sailing close by or the sound of the distant voices from the other crew gave me a good feeling. Really looking forward to increasing the fleet size soon.
